SNL Recap: Miley Cyrus and The Strokes

Miley Cyrus and the Strokes: There’s no denying that this is one of the strangest combinations SNL has ever devised, but at least it appeals to a varied demographic. The Strokes’ fourth album drops March 22, but Miley has no new music or movies about to premiere, so it’s probably safe to assume SNL wanted her to host because of the ridiculous amount of comedic material she embodies.

As a Valentine’s Day treat, Saturday Night Live gave us an episode hosted by a reformed British bad boy married to one of America’s favorite pop divas, and featured a musical guest best known for beating up one of America’s favorite pop divas. So much for traditional romance.

“Jesse Eisenberg, Nicki Minaj”

When I heard that Jesse Eisenberg was going to host “Saturday Night Live,” my first thought was, “can he do comedy?” I immediately thought of all the popular movies he’s been in, and — barring the almighty “Social Network” — most of his characters have been funny. With that being the case, it’s strange that I didn’t automatically associate Eisenberg with comedy. Apparently, “SNL” felt the same, because right from the start, it seemed like they were forcing the connection.

Some people have had the misfortune of witnessing their parents doing… well, you know. It.  While you may have been one of the lucky ones who escaped this hellish ordeal, the scandalized Dunphy kids almost resorted to eyeball bleaching after an awkward interruption on Wednesday night’s “Modern Family.”

College 'Aint this Absurd

There are many things UCSD students associate with college — classes, tests, studying, that six pound biochem book I have to read before finals — but teen dramas, god bless their melodramatic little hearts, don’t seem to have the same ideas.
